Planned Parenthood Shooting

I will start off by saying, I am pro-choice. I have never had an abortion but I know many people that have. Though I am unsure if I would have one or not, I not only respect their decision, but I appreciate having the option.

That being said, I do understand why people are pro-life. I do not agree with their mentality or their reasoning but I can understand if I were to walk in their shoes.

What I do not understand is this shooting that happened at Planned Parenthood in Colorado. I do not understand harming people to prove your point. I do not understand killing people because you are “pro-life”. That is an oxy-moron if I ever heard one.

I read this article today: Kansas PP incidents . A woman that worked at a Planned Parenthood in Kansas for three years wrote about the incidents that took place during that time.

I do not care if you are pro life or pro choice. If you are against or for something, if you have a strong, passionate belief in something; harming or killing people is not a way to make changes! Go to rally’s, protest peacefully, sign petitions, write to legislators, hang fliers, etc…etc…DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT hurt people! Hurting people does not cause positive change. You are making things worse.

Committee Study of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Detention and Interrogation Program

I have been reading many articles that cover the release of the CIA’S Interrogation Program report. I would like to read the full report myself but it is over 500 pages so for now I am reading a variety of articles about it.

Before the report was even released I was seeing this picture float around on Face Book:

The site of this picture makes me sick for so many reasons. My friends were posting it, my family members were posting it and I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. This picture represents so much evil that I can hardly wrap my brain around it. This picture disgusts me. It disgusts me that this picture of this man jumping to his death on 9/11 is being used as an excuse to torture other people. This man that was killed on 9/11 is being used as the “reason” people don’t care that others are tortured. This evil, horrendous, unfathomable act is perpetuating so much more hate and it makes me sad.

I fully understand the horror of 9/11, I really, truly do. I am from NYC and know so many people that were affected by 9/11 and I was affected by 9/11 more than I could have thought. I am not under any circumstance saying that this was OK but I have to say that I do not think torturing other people is the answer.

I became more and more sick as I was reading the coverage of the CIA report. “…detainee Abu Zubaydah became “completely unresponsive with bubbles rising through his open full mouth.” Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded at least 183 times, which the Senate report describes as escalating into a “series of near drownings.””, The facility was so dark in some places that guard had to wear head lamps, while other rooms were flooded with bright lights and white noise to disorient detainees.”

These are acts I could not even imagine. As I read my stomach became weak and I was tearing up. It is so upsetting to know that people that could make 9/11 happen exist. It was also upsetting to know that people are being tortured in secret, and committing acts that are against the law. This is terrifying to me. It is worse than horror movies. I just can’t fathom it. How do we live in a world where such evil exists. Evil beyond comprehension.

Reading these horror stories makes me want to vomit. It makes me want to move to another planet and then I see this picture being shared and it has thousands and thousands of likes. Thousands upon thousands of people not only condoning the unthinkable torture but applauding it. My heart grows heavy. There is so much hate in this world. I just think that there must be a better way. How is this the way? Not only is it illegal but it is inhumane. It is evil. That things like this go on in the world absolutely terrifies me.

November is National Adoption Month!

November is National Adoption Month! I think that is super exciting because I think adoption is super cool! There are so many children in this world that need families and there are so many adults in this world that want children but can’t have them for one reason or another.

If you are thinking about having kids biologically, through surrogacy, or artificial insemination, I urge you to consider adoption! You can be helping a sweet, loving, caring kid that is already here and needs a loving family. You can make such a difference in someones life that is already here on this earth!

While we’re at it, did you know that LGBTQ folks are heavily restricted when it comes to adoption?? Just because they identify as LGBTQ! That just isn’t right. There are so many kids that need families and so many LGBTQ folks that want to adopt! It just doesn’t add up!

Here are some awesome adoption stories as well as some info on LGBTQ adoption: (Every single one made me cry. So heartwarming. Worth every minute.)

Cat Calling and #DudesGreetingDudes

I’m sure everyone has seen the video of the girl walking around NYC and getting cat-called. Everyone has their different take of it. Lots of people, men specifically think there is nothing wrong with the actions taken by the men in the video. Many men are saying that these men are simply greeting the woman in the video and that they greet other men as well as women.

To show just how ridiculous that argument is, the hashtag #dudesgreetingdudes was born. It is hilarious and a great way to show men that these kinds of comments aren’t heard by men.

Cat-calling has become a hot, controversial topic. What do you think about it?

Man Arrested for Feeding the Homless

This makes me really sad. An elderly man, 90 years old, along with two pastors were arrested for feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Florida has recently passed laws that criminalize the homeless. Citizens are not allowed to feed them. If they do, they risk jail time and/or a fine. Also, the homeless are not able to have their belongings out in public. If they do, the police are able to confiscate them. Where exactly are homeless people supposed to keep their stuff? Are they supposed to get a storage room or a locker? Oh wait, I forgot, they just shouldn’t be homeless right? They should pick themselves up by their bootstraps and get a job, right?
